The Baby Changes Everything…

Recently as we walked into church, someone pointed a video camera at me and asked, “What does Christmas mean to you?”

Freeze frame.

What DOES Christmas mean to me? It means the year is nearly done. It means traveling to spend time with family. It means shopping, and “Silk Nog”. But is there more?

Oh yes!

This is the time of year when we especially remember Heaven’s Greatest Gift. I know… December 25th is not likely the actual date of his birth. But this IS the time of remembering… of giving thanks.

One birth changed everything on planet earth. One birth divided time. One birth shattered darkness with light. One birth demonstrates the heart of the Father. One birth brought heaven to earth. One birth provides a bridge from earth to heaven. One birth. One baby. Everything is changed for good.

There in the manger, we see the heart of God poured out. In the words of the angels we hear the lies of Lucifer refuted. God is full of good will toward us – not vindictive judgment. To the poor the baby says, “Have courage, I am one of you.” To the rich the baby says come and worship me instead of ¬†your wealth. To the homeless, “I’ve been there.”

To each of us the baby offers hope, freedom, salvation, and joy. “God with us.” is a God who “gets” us.

Because of the babe born in Bethlehem, we can be confident that we are known, treasured, and redeemed.

The Baby changes everything.

Merry Christmas.
